When this happened I was astonished that a disaster of this size and magnitude could have been allowed to occur.

How does the T.V.A. manage to cart off it's garbage to other states? It's time for them to park this hazardous waste on their own abundant land holdings and work on neutralizing them.
RENEGADEGAS: As ususal, please try reading more than you comment. The article posting guidelined by GasBuddies/GasPrices are very explicit and clear cut. This article is appropriate for this Forum.
edtx2009 happens here too, along with s..., unfortunately. This little Eddie Haskel wannabe certainly manages to be just as irritating with his childish whining.

I'm in favor of developing advancements in solar, hydro, and wind power. I doubt they'll be enough.
I think we need to be open-minded about expanding nuclear generation.

They need a better way to store the waste. Or, as other posters say, close coal fired power plants. If we close these plants, where most of our power comes from, then we will have to go without electricty. Can't build nuclear, NG would be good for some, but the cost would skyrocket if used by all. What do you do?

What a total mess! And this is coal ash, after the coal has been burned - this is what’s left over. So how many and how much of these poisons have been released into the atmosphere? And they are dumping the tainted water into the nations waterways. Who’s in charge here anyway?

We have to use coal since the environmentalist have not allowed a new power plant to be built in the last 30 years. There is a new one in the works in Georgia, but it's not built yet.

A good example of why coal fired plants should be refitted or rebuilt to use natural gas.

There is no such thing as "clean coal".
The company that spilled should clean up the mess. The government should not have to pay for any of this.

This was one of the concerns in Kansas. A new coal plant is being built here.
