Gasoline Demand Is At An 18 Month High

The Business Insider -- Maybe all the talk about peak gasoline is bunk. With the price of gas low, and peak driving season upon us, Mastercard reports that U.S. gasoline consumption was the highest it's been in a year and a half:

Bloomberg: Motorists bought an average 9.695 million barrels of gasoline a day in the week ended June 26, MasterCard, the second-biggest credit-card company, said in its weekly SpendingPulse report. That’s 1.6 percent above a year earlier and the most since the week ended Dec. 21, 2007.

If this story is true, it will just fire up investors to buy more and drive the price up. We have to use less not more.

Didn't the other two say the demand was at a low? That makes a lot more sense than it being at a high, as we all know that's not true.

1.6 percent above a year earlier is not much of an improvement when you consider gas was above $4 a gallon last year.

If we all keep driving more the price of gas will NOT go down and stay down. We need to conserve, but I fear the only way to make Americans conserve is to have high prices.

Folks are driving, not flying with bagage, food & drink charges, pay toilets are next. But as interviews went they are ot driving more than 2 hours. Same as we do to Erie to gamble since Ohio horse racing tracks do not have RACINOS. They pay us $10 to play slots with & that lasted 8 hours, we get casino rate of $79 at suite hotels that have 2 hour cocktail parties for Racino guests. And we both get a free lunch buffet good til 3:30. We eat at 3PM so we get dinner too. The the 5 races at the horse track & at night it is party time with the jockeys & their failies.

And today I heard on one of the networks that the amount of miles driven is down almost 11% from this time last year, the amount of miles driven has steadily fallen since gas hit its peak last summer, and the falling price of gas didn't reverse the slide. Just more proof that whatever you think, you can find some sort of "expert" to justify it.

Bloomberg is trying to paint a dismal picture and is using specious date to support his conjecture. Why? Trying to influence the market and pick up a few shekels?

The US dollar's decline will outweigh demand in the short run. Should hte US dollar continue to rise, as it has in the last couple weeks, then oil will drop, as will gas prices and the US stock markets.

I don't believe it. This is contradicted by every other story here at GasBuddy.

Did MasterCard exclude non-gas purchases such as cigarettes, beer, alcohol, food, and water? There is no mention of this in the referenced article.
