Does it have the electric motor in front and a cvt transmission connecting to the rear wheel, or is the motor in back directly connected to the wheel? If it's the 1st situation, I'd think the rear wheel and cvt design were not redesigned, just connected to an electric motor & batteries. A 50cc gy6 engine and cvt may be able to bolt directly in replacing the existing electric hardware. I've seen them on ebay and several web sites as replacement engines for less than $300. It's worth a look before you give up it. On the other hand, similar new 50cc Chinese scoots can be had for $600-$1000. It may not be worth the $ for the labor. Good luck either way.

I tried the bicycle with an electric/battery assist wheel for getting to work before the scoot. It worked ok, but it didn't have enough power for some of the hills, and the batteries couldn't go round trip without recharging at work. Too much of a hassle. The convenience of being able to buy 1.25 gallons of gas on any corner and going 100+ miles outweighed the good of the exercise, cheaper to run and no registration/license etc... Hope you can get yours going.
