bear: I leave my car in first gear, but then, it's a stick shift (bought new intentionally as stick as I like manual transmissions). And first gear means, that vehicle doesn't go anywhere. Plus, I use the parking brake.

Good for Honda to act quickly. Bad that this is a defect. Worse that drivers leave their cars in gear other than park when they leave the car - that's the reason for having a "park" gear!

HAT TRICK! Same article three days in a row
Anyone who does put a car in gear and/or set the parking brake deserves to have their car roll away.

Another reason to regularly use parking break is that with long periods of non-use it can stick when applied. Using parking brake regularly is a good habit to develop with any car.

Are you guys serious? Bashing Honda because a "nanny" part (the ignition interlock) might wear out and let you take the keys out of the ignition with the car in gear? If you turn off your car with it in gear and pull the key out and your car rolls away, I blame the driver. How lame we have become in today's world? Pay attention to what you are doing, and these things won't happen! I give Honda high praise for addressing this issue without having to be ordered by the courts like other auto makers!

That is the problem when companies cut corners to maintain profits. The product suffers.

If a motorist is dumb enough to leave his car without putting his transmission in Park or setting the hand brake, he DESERVES to lose his car. He shouldn't blame the manufacturer, just his own stupidity.

On the initial report I though this was a defect, but now it sounds more like a problem of stupid drivers. Why would you park and leave your vehicle in neutral?
