slowtrain: if you haven't noticed, this is a Gasbuddy BLOG. It's not news. It's the opinion of one of the GB gods, i.e. Patrick DeHaan, Senior Analyst at GB.

What this'll do is spawn a whole new era of greed-controlled tollways and bridges, JUST LIKE WE HAD in the 1920s, until bridge collapses and murderous tolls forced local, state and the Federal government to start taking over highways, which they did starting around 1925. Texas is one of THE dumbest states in the Union....everything they do reeks of stupidity.
By the way....California has had "gifting" of road cleanup for over 25 years....WAY before Texas.

Well as long as it's voluntary donations instead of higher taxes that's ok. I suppose at least a few businesses will donate money to that program in exchange for putting up their advertising sign along the highway so it's really no different for them than paying for a billboard.
The article mentions trash pickup, mowing and vegetation cleanup. I wonder what ever happened to having jail inmates do that kind of work?

More state and local government should be frugal. Might send a message to the wasteful crooks in washington.

donations?? hahaha! The state already gets massive private-sector donations. It is called state sales tax. If I see a pot hole out there, I suppose I can stop and dump a bag of ready mix concrete into it. How's that for yer britches Prick Perry?

Texas DOT seeks private-sector funding for road maintenance. Private donations to pay for roadside upkeep, more states should do this! A first impression for people driving into the state, this is good and will keep the rest areas and travel information centers looking just a little better. Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

That is a novel idea. Maybe they could use some boy & girl scouts to help out. They could get a merit badge for maintenance & some of the rest areas would be a great place for studying the trees & plants. Besides the state already employs some people who could give nature talks to the scouts.
