Chevron's fire bill: $10M and counting

San Francisco Chronicle -- Chevron has paid $10 million in medical-compensation claims arising from last year's Richmond refinery blaze, company officials said Monday.
The money has gone to "valid claims" among the 23,900 requests for money that Chevron has received since the Aug. 6 fire sent a cloud of hydrocarbons and black smoke drifting over Richmond and surrounding cities, company officials said in a letter to Randy Sawyer, hazardous materials director for Contra Costa County.
Most of the money has gone to hospitals to pay for medical exams and treatment that resulted from the fire, said Sean Comey, a Chevron spokesman.
An estimated 15,000 people sought treatment at hospitals in the days after the fire for respiratory and other problems. Comey said the "vast majority" had not suffered significant problems.

I'm just wondering how those numbers would look side by side.

I have seen a tanker truck blow up and knock light poles out for a quarter mile. Remember, one gallon of gasoline is equal to one stick of TNT.
