Divided Europe: Car Industry Winners and Losers Drift Apart

Der Spiegel Online -- A two-tiered industry is emerging among European automakers. While German brands BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen are reporting record profits, competitors Opel, Peugeot, Renault and Fiat are struggling to survive. The word "blood" is often mentioned in connection with the crisis in the European automobile industry, a sector that accounts for about 12 million jobs.

Opel going the way of GM, no where. What's even crazier is that it may appear that Chrysler could possibly keep Fiat afloat with sales.

So far, everyone I talked to likes their Fiat 500 and VW's. I always considered MB and BMW overpriced. Paying for the name, and not the car.
