Higher gas prices not putting a damper on February auto sales

LA Times -- February is turning out to be another good month for auto sales.

"All signs of the industry’s health are positive right now," said John Humphrey, senior vice president of the global automotive practice at J.D. Power and Associates. "Average transaction prices are up, incentives are stable, leasing is at a healthy level and newly redesigned models continue to make an impact on the marketplace."

The auto research firm estimates that February auto sales will reach nearly 1.2 million, about a 7% increase from the same month a year earlier. It will be the fourth consecutive month with the annual selling rate at or above 15.2 million vehicles.

"This has led to new-vehicle transaction prices that are averaging nearly $1,000 more in February than the same period in 2012 while incentives have

Higher gas prices not putting a damper on February auto sales? High gas prices? Auto Sales?
I will drive my vehicle into the ground before buying anything new, used, EV, Inbred, Plug In, diesel, hydrogen, alternative fuel, CNG, concept and certainly NOT a GM, Ford, Chrysler, Fiat, Prius, Tesla, Leaf, Volt, Peugeot or an NYC/Hurricane Sandy Special 'exploding submarine' Fiskar Karma Inbred!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

I dunno about the study, but the higher the prices at the pump, the less I drive for fun (i.e. weekend short trips).

There still is some question about this idea. The economy is raising in some other areas, but with raisng gas prices, there is still soem ways to go.

Maybe people are buying new cars that don't use as much fuel because of the higher gas prices. (duh)

Higher gas prices are probably putting a damper on other purchases, however.

Raise prices and they still buy! I bought my first new car a Ford in 1959 for $2,100 a mileage maker six. Back in the thirties you could buy a new Dodge for $600. In 1946 you could buy a new army Jeep for $1200.
