You must be subscribing to a different WSJ than I subscribe to. WSJ is a member in good standing of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, the same people who bring you the FOX News Channel.

Where's the good ol' U.S.A. in all of this? U.A.W. and the Big Three ought to do some deep soul searching!

Mexico is where the automotive transmissions work I used to do at Borg Warner, Muncie, IN, went. That's what unions do for ya.

If you look at cars like the Mercury Gran Marquis my parents have, final assembly is in Mexico but US content is 70%. Most parts suppliers are shipping from the US and Canada for assembly in Mexico. Good paying jobs in Mexico mean two things, the illegal immigrants coming to the US are no longer largely from Mexico and Mexican citizens spend on other American goods like they never have before. You can spot Mexican tourists shopping here because they turn over the items and check to see where they are made. Made in USA Canada has a cache for quality that is prized in Mexico. We both come out ahead in the long run. They are also stealing back to North America jobs that had gone to China 10 years ago.

R209 makes a good point. Which is the lesser of two evils: Made in Mexico or China? Of course, I still prefer USA made.

The culture of Mexico has a reputation of working hard for less money. This is true of those that stay in Mexico and those that come to the US. They are "hungry" for success and are willing to work hard for it. The average Mexican works much harder than the average American and complains about it much less.

When businesses close their doors because they can no longer stay in business due to the cost of labor and union demands then the unions get to go somewhere else and we get 18,000 people added to the unemployment lines!! Not a good way to build the economy!!

Unions are necessary at times but they also contribute a lot to the cost of a product. Twinkies is going out of business. If twinkies has two products to deliver, two different truck drivers are needed.
