Thanks again -- it's been going on in WVa for over 150 years -- and the mining folks have been getting it for all that time. Nothing new whether it's the owners or the governments.

Good comment Joeski1. This area is unfortunately stuck in a time warp. The industry still controls and dictates most aspects of life and there are almost no other jobs.
West Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains has been financially depressed for a long time. Especially after the monster coal industry realized it is cheaper and faster to just blast the tops off the mountains to get at the coal seams. Strip mining, AKA mountain top removal does not employ nearly as many workers as deep mining for coal.
Fewer workers and a faster (albeit, extremely destructive) process, while ignoring safety regulations means bigger profits for the coal barons. Of course, as most greedy industries do, they blame the EPA and any disliked political figure for the loss of jobs. These big greed industries see no reason to acknowledge to the general public that greed for bigger profits is what motivates most of their "business" decisions. Earning million$$$ in profits while paying what amounts to only pennies in fines? Business as usual for the big greed coal, oil & gas.
The oil, gas and coal industries have no interest in how much toxic waste they spill or dump. No interest in the amount of health problems they create and leave in their wake.
The coal industry could have cleaned up their act long ago, but sees no reason to bother.
This is actually a well written article worth the read for those interested in learning more about the situation.

In WV, towns are consumed by coal....
they literally get eaten up and spit out in the coal mountains as they are blasted away for the black....
nothing left but the bodies of the departed in small cemeteries atop what's left of small hills accessible only by twisting turning roads in the middle of the coal mine areas after recieving permission to visit by the coal authorities...

Hey, they voted for obama. They got obama. And now they get his tax funded lifetime welfare programs... Why work when you can vote for handouts.

This is part of Obozo's "fundamental transformation". "Flyover country" descends into permanent depression, while in DC filthy-rich federal bureaucrats buy $300K Lamborghinis with cash.

You have to adapt with the times or perish. It's all greed; companies need to spend money cleaning the junk that comes out the coal fire plants but they don't want to spend the money.

Oh, the future is certain. Obama and Biden said they would bankrupt the coal companies. So the employees will all lose their jobs. I just don't understand why they voted for Obama and Biden when they knew this would be coming from this administration.

We will see a time when coal can and will be used again. In the interim, there are technological bumps to surmount in the pollution arena. The answer is not "Lets relax the burdensome regulation" as many Republicans seem to repeat ad nauseum.
